Chaplaincy Research Fellowship
This 12-month research fellowship will educate chaplains in the fundamentals of chaplaincy research with an emphasis on the role of religion/spirituality (r/s) in medical-decision making, coping with medical conditions and meaning making.

Salary: The stipend is $45,000 a year with 15 days of paid time off in addition to 7 holidays.

Requirements This program is divided in two: clinical chaplaincy and chaplaincy research.  Fellows will dedicate half of their time to provide clinical care in their assigned units and the other half to read and analyze material, write analyses, create presentations, contribute to research projects, attend didactics, etc. Fellows will grow in their ability to engage in evidence based chaplaincy practices in their clinical settings and in applying research-oriented skills to future professional endeavors.

Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree(s) from a theological institution accredited by a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
  • Ordained or licensed to function as a chaplain by denominational authority.
  • Completed or in the process of completing four units of clinical pastoral education (ACPE-CPE).
  • Articulation and integration of research literature into clinical practice. (See essay below).
  • Three letters of recommendations addressing clinical and when applicable, research practice.  (For CPE residents currently enrolled in a CPE program, letters from their current CPE Supervisor(s) is advisable).
  • A copy of a Verbatim showing skills and strengths as a clinician.
  • Previous experience in conducting research desirable but not necessary.
 
Essay.  Write a 4-6 page, double space essay answering the question below.  Make sure to use APA style for your references (Essay question from Competency ITP6 of the Association of Professional Chaplains):  “Spiritual care providers integrate research literacy and may conduct research to ensure that their spiritual care is current and innovative in their practice. Using examples, demonstrate how you are utilizing current research literature in your spiritual care practice and work with interdisciplinary team members.  If applicable, what primary research have you participated in and what were the key findings?  How are you integrating your findings in your spiritual care practice?”

The Fellowship runs from 9/6/2021 to 8/26/2023.
