Chaplain - Catholic Priest
Oversees Roman Catholic pastoral care needs and collaborates with other Staff Chaplains for on-going and interfaith spiritual care needs of patients, families, and staff.

Job Specific Responsibilities
  • Provides sacraments and pastoral/spiritual care to patients, families, and staff, both Catholic and interfaith
  • Participates in working with a team of chaplains and volunteers
  • Provides education on catholic pastoral/spiritual care
  • Participates in chaplain on-call rotation as scheduled
  • Assists in developing and maintaining community relations and emergency coverage for priest requests.
  • Participates in ethical decision-making process with patients, families, and staff
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required or requested.

Requirements Education and Experience
  • Ordained Catholic Priest, duly accredited by and in good standing with the Roman Catholic Church and approved by the Bishop of the diocese in which UMC is located
  • Bachelor’s degree in religious studies or directly related
  • Clinical Pastoral Education – 4 units completed or obtainable
  • Stress Management training and experience preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently. Bilingual (English-Spanish) speaking preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Able to minister to the personal spiritual needs of the medical staff, professional and technical staff, other employees, the patients, and their families. Must also be able to interact on a professional level with the same persons.
  • Ability to minister to persons with diverse religious and cultural backgrounds (ecumenical)
  • Excellent listening skills
  • Articulate spiritual assessments of patients and families
  • Be organized, responsible, dependable, and work independently
  • Be able to support very ill patients and distraught families
  • Trauma and crisis intervention skills
  • Function collegially within the Pastoral Care Department and hospital staff in a multi-faith/multi-cultural environment
  • Work on an interdisciplinary health care team in the delivery of care
  • Interact diplomatically with the public
  • Computer skills required
